SATURDAY, MARCH 1
They're politically outspoken and unafraid to express their opinions - no matter how controversial - on everything from the conflict in Northern Ireland to civil rights in contemporary New York City. Tonight, Celtic rockers Black 47, named for the most devastating year of the Irish potato famine, bring their rough, high-energy sound to the Loft at Tommy Doyle's (96 Winthrop Street, Cambridge, 617.864.0655). The band is gearing up for the March 4 release of IRAQ, an album featuring a number of songs written over the course of the war and inspired by the personal stories of Black 47 fans who've served overseas. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. and the show starts at 9:30; special guests the Gobshites open. For tickets ($15), visit www.ticketweb.com.
