Look on the bright Side

While we mourned the closing of Anthem (and thus the disappearance of its famous fried Twinkie), we're eagerly anticipating the opening of replacement Johnnie's On the Side (138 Portland Street, Boston), which is opening in the space later this month. The upscale eatery plans a menu that favors New England-style cooking (think steaks and fish) with an Italian slant. If you're a late-night owl, get your fix in Johnnie's lower-level West End Lounge. Owner John Caron has made some aesthetic changes, swapping out Anthem's velvet accents for more masculine leather and brass. We're just happy to have a chi-chi oasis in the midst of the neighborhood's raucous post-game crowds.
