THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 27
Zach Braff might be kind of a tool (just ask Mandy Moore), but he sure knows how to create a playlist chock full of hidden-gem, under-the-radar artists. Case in point: the soundtrack to his quirky 2004 flick, Garden State. All it took were the first few strains of Iron & Wine's slowed-down, breathy version of the Postal Service's "Such Great Heights" for us to fall madly in love. Lucky for us, Miami-based Iron & Wine - a/k/a Sam Beam, who's often accompanied on vocals by his sister, Sarah - performs tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Orpheum Theatre (One Hamilton Place, Boston, 617.482.0650). Tickets are $22 to $30 and can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com or 617.931.2000. Iron & Wine is on the road in support of full-length album number three, The Shepherd's Dog, due out September 25.
