Is it just us, or does it seem that every South End dweller owns a dog? Whether it's true or not, the neighborhood is in dire need of green space for pooches and their owners, and a group of take-charge residents have banded together to make the Joe Wex Dog Recreation Space at Peters Park, the first of its kind in Boston, a reality. Its projected completion date is late September, but alas, construction isn't free. So Tom Gerace and Guy Busa are hosting a fundraising event on September 20 at the 1280 Washington Street penthouse from 7 to 9 p.m.; the minimum donation is $150 for individuals and $250 for couples. Join honorary hosts Mayor Menino and his wife, Angela, for appetizers and desserts from local eateries, including Rocca, the Butcher Shop, and Stella, plus beverages from BRIX Wine Shop. Feeling even more generous? Attend the evening's cooking demonstration with South End Buttery executive chef Marissa Iocco and pastry chef Lee Napoli at 6 p.m.; the minimum donation is $250 for individuals and $400 for couples.
