A Century of Chic

One of our favorite fashion icons is turning 100 - and no, it's not Janice Dickinson (though she certainly isn't looking any younger these days). Chic retailer Neiman Marcus (5 Copley Place, Boston, 617.536.3660), which got its start in a Dallas storefront in 1907, is the one being fêted. While September 10 was officially proclaimed Neiman Marcus Day in Boston - commemorated with a cake-cutting by Mayor Menino - the celebration continues all week. The store has secured exclusive merchandise to commemorate the anniversary (think Prada boots, Oscar de la Renta gowns, and David Yurman jewels), and an in-store beauty event runs through September 14, complete with makeovers and free gifts. A cocktail party will be held on September 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. Fashionistas can also attend one of the week's trunk shows or the September 14 celebration of the Neiman Marcus Pop-Up Book, a coffee-table-ready tome that retails for $100 (how fitting). For a more detailed listing of events, visit www.neimanmarcus.com.
