Hot World Domination: Upper Crust

There's just something about the pizza at the Upper Crust: thin, crispy crust, gooey cheese, swoon-worthy toppings ... we can't get enough. And apparently neither can anyone in Massachusetts, because the brand's been expanding like crazy all over the state. It all started in 2001 with a Beacon Hill location. Founder Jordan Tobins and crew opened a Brookline restaurant the following year, expanded to Lexington in '05, and tackled Hingham and Newbury Street in 2006. They opened recently on Moody Street in Waltham, and the Upper Crust's South End and Watertown Square shops are slated to open this fall, with a Harvard Square opening planned for the winter. We have no idea how they do it, but all the those restaurants are company-owned and -run - though in a big step for the biz, the Upper Crust's first franchise opens this fall. And don't settle on a favorite pie yet: the company has plans to develop a new pizza flavor for each addition to its empire.
