It's Friday, it's 1 p.m., and we simply can't stomach the fact that we're stuck in the office on such a beautiful day. So we head to lunch - somewhere with a fabulous outdoor terrace, of course - and we skip straight to the drinks menu. A cocktail seems a bit much, and a glass of wine will simply put us to sleep. So what to drink when you want a bit of celebration but can't risk your sobriety? A shandy, of course. Popular in Europe, the drink is a blend of beer and something lighter. (Some mix with lemonade, others with soda.) Our personal favorite is a light but flavorful Stella cut with Sprite. And depending on when you're drinking, you can adjust the ratio accordingly. Friday lunch? We go halvsies at most. Sunday afternoons? We've got nowhere to go, so we mix it a bit stiffer. Either way, we think a shandy's the perfect daytime drink. Just keep a breath mint handy before you enter your afternoon meeting.
