Hot New Neighbors: Super-High-End Fashion in Boston

There was a time when well-heeled Bostonians were forced to set off on a seasonal pilgrimage to Fifth Avenue to stock up on their favorite big-name designers. But these days, locals are (finally!) embracing their sense of high fashion - and, as a result, the city has welcomed a number of stores to quench the thirst for swanky style. Stiletto devotees rejoiced when Jimmy Choo (Copley Place, 100 Huntington Avenue, Boston, 617.927.9570) opened this past spring, while one of fashion's most distinguished labels, Valentino (47 Newbury Street, Boston, 617.578.0300), opened a Back Bay outpost last year. Bloomingdale's (Mall at Chestnut Hill, 225 Boylston Street, Chestnut Hill, 617.630.6000) underwent a major expansion in the fall, and Barneys New York (Copley Place, 100 Huntington Avenue, Boston, 617.385.3300) took Copley Place by storm in early 2006. In fact, Copley Place (2 Copley Place, Boston, 617.369.5000) is where many of the high-end retailers are concentrating: Salvatore Ferragamo, David Yurman, and Burberry all opened outposts there this summer.
