Neighborhood bars are the stuff that memories are made of. When one closes, it's like a friend has moved away. Such was the case when Robert Elliott shuttered the much loved, heavily trafficked Tir na Nog in March, after 11 years of Guinness flowing like water and live music seven nights a week. The rumor mill began churning: will he or won't he reopen? Then a MySpace page was created to console those who mourned the Nog and to keep the gossip in check. But the grieving was short-lived: at the end of July, to keep the legacy alive, Elliott started running the show at Toast (70 Union Square, Somerville, 617.623.9211), just down the street from the original location, under the name Nog Night at Toast. He cozied up the dungeon-like space and now plans the music on Sundays through Wednesdays. Elliott's looking to get a kitchen running soon too. It's been a homecoming to remember.
