Summer lovin': The products we're obsessed with right now
We'll never get over our love of long, lush lashes, so next to our tried-and-true eyelash curler, an absolute must-have is the Lash Extender ($26.50) from Parisian cosmetics line Talika. When brushed on after your first swipe of mascara, the product's tiny rayon fibers stick to lashes, giving the appearance of both thickness and length. We suggest following it up with a second coat of mascara to seal in the fibers; to avoid strays caught under the eyes, dust on a bit of loose powder before application to ensure that they'll brush off easily. Stock up at MiniLuxe (792 Beacon Street, Newton, 617.332.9200).
We can't help but get caught up in ecological everything, and our makeup case is no exception. But our affinity for PlantLove Lipstick ($20) by CARGO, available at Sephora (Prudential Center, 800 Boylston Street, Boston, 617.262.4200), stems from the fact that it's good for people, too: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital gets $2 from the sale of each tube. In addition, the tube is biodegradable, the carton is embedded with wildflower seeds - just moisten and plant - and even the lipstick itself is made from environmentally friendly ingredients. And six of the 12 shades were designed by earth-conscious celebrities including Courteney Cox, Evangeline Lilly, and Lindsay Lohan.
We find that when we've been using one cleanser/toner/moisturizer regime for a while, we need to switch things up or our skin becomes too used to it - and thus problematic. One of the more practical products we've come across, the new Fresh Face Skincare Starter Kit ($20) from LUSH (30 JFK Street, Cambridge, 617.497.5874), streamlines the process. Formulated for normal-to-dry, normal-to-oily, and combination skin, each kit contains a cleanser, spray-on toner, and moisturizer that's sized to try, no commitment necessary.
Though we like to think we always have a healthy glow, we admit that, due to long hours, poor diets, and far too many cocktails, our complexion isn't always what it should be. Cue our new favorite gadget-cum-beauty-product: the LORAC Cheek Stamp ($22), available at www.beauty.com. Packaged in a unique stamp-on-a-spring, the blush goes on smooth and blends easily for a pop of color and just a hint of shimmer. With shades like Hibiscus, Pink Paradise, and Island Spice, you'll surely find one to match your natural flush.
We're slightly intimidated by any sort of sunless tanning on our faces. Streaky orange legs are one thing, but streaky orange cheeks? Totally tragic. Instead, we've become devotees of the cream bronzer, and there are two we adore: Sunburst Beaded Bronzing Lotion ($28) from Tarte, available at Sephora, contains tiny bronzing beads that burst on contact, delivering a subtle glow. Meanwhile, High Noon Freshface Glow ($36) by Fresh (121 Newbury Street, Boston, 617.421.1212) has been flying off the shelves. The effect is more brightening than darkening, and we love its cool, cucumber-y scent. @
