Just when you thought ginger couldn’t get any more appealing than an island castaway, along comes Domaine de Canton, billed as the world’s first ginger liqueur (not to mention one of the prettiest liquor bottles on the market). Developed by Maurice Cooper et Cie’s John Cooper, a third-generation Cordial entrepreneur — his grandfather established the oldest line of domestic cordials in 1884; his father bought Chambord in the 1970s — Domaine de Canton is made by hand from Asian baby ginger, VSOP cognac, Grand Champagne cognac, ginseng, vanilla beans, and honey from Provençe. The result? A complex yet smooth treat that can be enjoyed on its own or mixed in a range of spicy and sweet cocktails. Don’t believe us? Order up an Evening Dew ($14) at 33 Restaurant & Lounge (33 Stanhope Street, Boston, 617.572.3311) and enjoy a blend of Domaine de Canton, Imperial Vodka, puréed honeydew melon, and Zipang Sparkling Sake. Or head to Vox Populi (755 Boylston Street, Boston, 617.424.8300) for a Ginger Snap ($13), made with Domaine de Canton, Christiana vodka, and a splash of Pepsi. If you’re feeling more like a castaway yourself, pick up a bottle ($31.99) at the Gordon’s Fine Wines & Liquors (894 Main Street, Waltham, 781.893.1900) and hole up at home.
