Hubbub

Wednesday, July 9: Shelby Lynne

WEDNESDAY, JULY 9
Torch songs? You’ve always insisted that they’re not your thing. Lately, though, you’re not sure what’s come over you. You’re humming Burt Bacharach ditties! Crooning Randy Newman refrains! Maybe it’s because you’ve been spending too much time at your dentist’s office, but we suspect it has something to do with hearing the sultry, soulful new album Just a Little Lovin’ from Shelby Lynne. On it, the bottle-blonde Southern chanteuse pays tribute to (and channels) Dusty Springfield. Her interpretations of some dusted-off classics include several written by some of the greats — yes, greats — of soft pop. Chances are she’ll showcase these gentle songs of hard emotion when she performs at the Somerville Theatre (55 Davis Square, Somerville, 617.625.4088). Tickets are $25 ($27 at the door), and the show starts at 8 p.m.; doors are at 7. Stop by the Somerville Theatre or the Middle East for tickets or visit www.ticketmaster.com.
