Regardless of how much time passes, some things will never seem outmoded. Take, for instance, rootbeer floats, burlesque dancers, Scrabble, Corvettes, Casablanca — and Cole Porter songs. When it comes to music, we’re all for the pop star of the hour, but generations from now, will your grandkids be able to hum “SexyBack” the way you can still whistle “I Get A Kick Out Of You”? The American songbook would be nothing but a dull hum if it weren’t for good ol’ Cole. And let’s not forget, he pimped the bubbly old-school-style long before Jay-Z was even a zygote. The American Repertory Theatre pays homage to him and his timeless classics about the good life with When It’s Hot, It’s Cole, a musical revue at the Zero Arrow Club (Zero Arrow Street, Cambridge, 617.547.8300). Tickets are $25 to $52; call 617.547.8300 or visit www.amrep.org
