Son Volt

SATURDAY, MAY 24
Jay Farrar is to altcountry what Coltrane is to jazz, what the Sex Pistols are to punk, what Dion and the
Belmonts are to doowop, what … well, you get the point. Farrar sauntered onto the scene in 1989, when he and Jeff Tweedy (later of Wilco fame) set socially-conscious lyrics to ambling Southern melodies and bursts of hard-driving rock in Uncle Tupelo. Now heading up Son Volt, Farrar continues to heed the call of what we’ll call pickup-truck rock with a keen sense of social awareness. The Search, the band’s fifth and latest album, features songs about the heartland experience in fast-paced modern America. They’ll pull into the Remis Auditorium at the Museum of Fine Arts (465 Huntington Avenue, Boston, 617.267.9300) tonight at 7.30 p.m. to shift the rock into high gear. Tickets are $24 to $35.
