Bourbon brigade

by Heather Bouzan, 04-22-2008

How does that old adage go? Something along the lines of: you can pick your bartender, you can pick your bourbon, but you can’t pick your — hold on a second! As it turns out, you can pick your bartender’s bourbon — or your liquor store proprietor’s. Jackson Cannon, bar manager at Eastern Standard (528 Comm Ave, Boston, 617.532.9100), and BRIX Wine Shop (1284 Washington Street, Boston; 105 Broad Street, Boston, 617.542.BRIX) co-owners Carri Wroblewski and Klaudia Mally recently became the first Boston spirits professionals to participate in a trend that’s fast expanding around the country: they visited a distillery, sampled several fresh-from-the-cask whiskies of the same age, picked a favorite, and waited a few weeks while it was bottled and stamped with their respective venue’s name. Now they’re here for all of us to try. We’ll drink to that.
