Dumped chumps
We've read plenty of stories about weepy, whiny women who've been dumped, thankyouverymuch. But guys getting kicked to the curb? Freaking hilarious. In Things I've Learned from Women Who've Dumped Me (Grand Central Publishing, 2008; $23.99), edited by funnyman Ben Karlin, the likes of Stephen Colbert, Andy Richter, and Dan Savage offer their wry, witty stories of relationships gone wrong and the insight that each imparted. (Examples include lesson 39: "Being Awkward Can Be a Prophylactic Against Dry Humping" and lesson one: "Sex is the Most Stressful Thing in the History of the Universe.") The book includes an introduction by Nick Hornby and a foreword by - get this - Karlin's mom. Pick up a copy at the Harvard Book Store (1256 Mass Ave, Cambridge, 617.661.1515), which is sponsoring an appearance by the editor on February 29 at 6 p.m. at the Brattle Theatre (40 Brattle Street, Cambridge, 617.876.6837). Tickets ($5) are available by calling or visiting the bookstore.
