Citizen Cope at the Orpheum Theatre

by Heather Bouzan, 02-06-2008

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 15
It's difficult to fit Citizen Cope into a neat box - but that's what makes his music so innovative. Cope, born Clarence Greenwood, has an introspective style that draws from folk, hip-hop, rock, and soul, creating a smooth, energetic sound that seems to flow without effort. Cope's biggest track yet, "Son's Gonna Rise," is perhaps the best driving song we've ever heard (and somebody agrees, seeing as it's now in a Pontiac commercial); his most recent album, Every Waking Moment, was released in 2006. Cope plays tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Orpheum Theatre (1 Hamilton Place, Boston, 617.679.0810). Tickets are $25 and are available at www.ticketmaster.com and 617.931.2000.
