When musicians are out on the road, they often survive on cigarettes, beer, and Taco Bell. But when that gets old, as journalist Kara Zuaro discovered, bands start getting creative in their RV kitchenettes. Zuaro has compiled a sampling of signature dishes from indie rockers including My Morning Jacket, Nada Surf, and Franz Ferdinand in her cookbook, I Like Food, Food Tastes Good: In the Kitchen With Your Favorite Bands (Hyperion, 2007; $17.95). Arranged in sections such as "Breakfast" (served only when one hasn't yet gone to sleep), "Sandwiches," and "Drinks," plus "Main Courses" for both carnivores and vegetarians, the recipes range from the unexpectedly highbrow (pork loin with poblano chilies, submitted by the Decemberists, and wild-boar ragù from the Violent Femmes) to the, um, other end of the spectrum (think: Cheesy Sleazy from Silkworm, or the veggie-sausage-and-peanut-butter sandwich that Death Cab for Cutie swears is delicious). Pick up a copy at Barnes & Noble (660 Beacon Street, Boston, 617.267.8484), choose your favorite recipe, add a six-pack of PBR, and enjoy.
