Feeding Frenzy: Boston Chocolate Trolley Tour, Excelsior

by Louisa Kasdon, 02-06-2008

FEBRUARY IS a month for eating large quantities of exquisite chocolate. Perfect time, then, for the Boston Chocolate Trolley Tour, offered from Old Town Trolley Tours at noon-ish every Saturday through April 26. Four stops of chocolate decadence are an excellent way to while away a winter Saturday. The three-hour all-you-can eat "tasting" excursion stops at Top of the Hub and the Omni Parker House Hotel, with a grand finish at the Langham Hotel's Chocolate Bar Buffet, where executive pastry chef Alex Luna will offer 125 enticing chocolate delicacies. For reservations, call 617.269.7010. >> Seeking sweet romance? Offer your darling a glass of wine and a big hunk of chocolate, says sommelier and wine writer Natalie MacLean. For a lesson in chocoholic/alcoholic seduction, visit www.nataliemaclean.com/matcher, where MacLean lists her top 10 chocolate-and-wine pairings. Number one match-up: dark chocolate and French Banyuls. >> Coming to Excelsior: First Wednesdays with sommelier Brahm Callahan, featuring three wines and three small plates in the bar for $39 every month. Next up on March 5: "It's all about the Bouquet," three aromatic Californian wines paired with calamari, grilled marlin, and Asian barbecued pork.
