Feeding Frenzy: Ivy, Rendang, Ashmont Grill, Rendezvous, Jake's Dixie Roadhouse, and Union Bar & Grill
If you want a way to cap off a summer evening (or start one), the Cava Cocktail Lounge at Ivy is holding weekly live jazz nights. Downstairs and dusky, Cava is a great place to digest the meal you've just enjoyed. A different performer plays every Wednesday from 7 to 11 p.m. >> Rendang, in Harvard Square, just got a beer and wine license. Great news for the restaurant's owners and good news for diners, since beer and wine are the perfect complement to Rendang's high-voltage Malaysian cuisine. >> Ashmont Grill's $25 Monday Night Wine Club continues. But it now requires reservations. (Only the lucky first 50 will get in!) On July 23, there's a tequila tasting; July 30 features wines of the Languedoc. >> How about a rendezvous at Rendezvous? Their Summer Wine Series features tasting portions of three different wines paired with interesting appetizers for $25. And throughout the month of July, Rendezvous offers a three-course dinner menu for $38, Monday through Saturday nights. >> If July isn't national Barbecue Lust Month, it should be. Two to try: Jake's Dixie Roadhouse's Sam Adams St. Louis spareribs, slow-cooked in a fire made from Sam Adams-used beer barrels and finished with a barbecue sauce with more than a hint of Sam Adams Black Lager; and, Union Bar & Grille's summer barbecue menu, a $37.04 prix fixe with a choice of four appetizers, four entrées, and four desserts, plus a choice of four special drinks.
